Fast facts
Practice type: Private
Specialties: General wellness
Styles: Classical Chinese medicine

Why did you become an acupuncturist?
I previously worked in the healthcare industry. My experience exposed me to a lot of the shortcomings of our healthcare system. Particularly, how it has really become a disease management system focused on dispensing pharmaceuticals as a cure-all. It is my belief that the body can heal itself with assistance. It is with this in mind that I was drawn to acupuncture. I truly believe most of us live our day-to-day lives at less than 100 percent of our body’s capabilities. I think through nutrition, exercise, and acupuncture we can get closer to living at the maximum of our potential.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
I practice acupuncture out of a 1970 Airstream that was renovated as a mobile acupuncture clinic. I treat groups of four to six individuals at a location of their choice. I can travel directly to businesses or neighborhoods, removing the challenge of having to drive to your appointment.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love that I am helping people to feel better. I also love that I am not asking people to take medication, which I think is all too prevalent in today’s healthcare industry.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
That acupuncture does not work. I have been witness to the benefits in my own life and in countless other patients’ lives. Time and time again I see how much the human body is capable of healing.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
I am big advocate of eating healthy, exercising and practicing mindfulness. I have run nine marathons and continue to exercise regularly. I also meditate daily and practice tai chi, qigong.

Fast facts
Practice type: Hybrid
Specialties: Anxiety, depression, infertility, menstrual conditions, stress
Styles: Community acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Why did you become an acupuncturist?
The reason I became an acupuncturist is very simple. I wanted to help people. My desire to help was and is not limited to a certain demographic, disability, or cause. That is where acupuncture comes in; it is limitless in its ability to heal and whom it helps. Acupuncture helps everyone. No matter the illness (or lack there of), the injury, the emotion, race, money, or age. Everyone will benefit from acupuncture. Everyone.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
I am not just an acupuncturist. I am a mom. I am a wife. I am a dancer. I am a certified Kundalini (as taught by Yogi Bhajan) yoga instructor. I am a southern girl who spent most of her adult life living, loving and learning in New York City and Brooklyn. I am understanding and know the challenges that come with leading a balanced, healthy life. We are all a work in progress and I get that.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
The people. I love being with people and watching them heal and learn about themselves. I am only a small part of a person’s journey. They do all the true work themselves. I am there to support, care, and encourage as the healing process moves forward.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
That it does not work. Most people who think this have either never experienced acupuncture or do not understand it.

“The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don’t know anything about.” —Wayne Dyer

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
I love to exercise with my family, so my husband and I do a lot of jogging and yoga with our little one. I also dance and eat a balanced diet. I am very particular about what I feed my daughter, so I try to make food choices based on whether it is something I would feed her. I also get weekly acupuncture treatments to stay healthy.
