Fast facts
Practice type: Hybrid
Specialties: Depression, digestive conditions, general wellness, menopause, musculoskeletal pain
Styles: Japanese acupuncture, meridian therapy

Why did you become an acupuncturist?
I originally went to college for acupuncture as a means to study herbs. In my early 20s I had a few health issues that weren’t responding to allopathic medicine so I began to treat myself with Western herbs. I thought that formal training in Chinese medicine would allow me to help others as well. In school I was introduced to Japanese styles of acupuncture and classical Chinese theory. I completely resonated with the idea of harmonizing the body/mind/spirit to initiate healing. The focus of my education shifted, and today herbs make up a small portion of my practice.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
I spend a lot of time listening to my patients. I focus on what is right with them, helping to nudge the body/mind/spirit back to balance with treatment and encouraging lifestyle changes. I also use direct moxibustion in almost every session.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy everything about the work! Every day I wake up and am so grateful. I simply love what I do.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
I often find that people are happily surprised to learn that acupuncture is not for the sole purpose of treating pain. I have had many people with some acupuncture experience expect that all treatments are the same, not realizing how many different styles and practices there are.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
I live a quiet, simple, abundant life. I study qigong and meditation. I eat well, meaning: clean meat, organic fresh fruits and vegetables, good water, and real tea! I am fortunate to be able to grow all the food I eat in the summer and fall. I am able to store homegrown food for the winter, often stretching it into the spring. Gardening is how I get a lot of my physical exercise. I also hike when the snowpack is melted, ski/snowshoe in the winter, and walk endlessly around the trails, with my partner and dogs, at our home year round.
