Why did you become an acupuncturist?
The beauty of acupuncture—its subtlety and mind-body connection, the gentle and almost magical way that it can resolve pain while it improves every aspect of wellbeing—intrigues me. I am lucky and grateful to be able to study this art and share this medicine with my patients.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
I practice trauma-informed care and use a very gentle style of Japanese acupuncture so that patients are able to relax completely, without focus on the needles. I have completed both a masters and doctorate in acupuncture, and I’ve done countless hours of continuing education to specialize in Kiiko Matsumoto style of acupuncture and to feel confident in treating complex and chronic medical conditions.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
My best days at work are those when a patient realizes that the connection between mindfulness, quality foods, movement—and the occasional help from acupuncture, therapy, or massage—are creating the best health of their life, and they do not need me on a regular basis. I love seeing pain resolve and happiness increase.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
The most common misconception I hear about acupuncture is that it will be painful or that a patient’s fear of needles prohibits them from trying it. Usually I have 4-5 needles inserted before a new patient asks me to let them know when I insert the first needle. But the most frustrating misconception I hear is, “I don’t believe in it.” We don’t need to believe in aspirin for it to be effective, and the same is true for acupuncture.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
To stay healthy in my own life, I try to be moderate in all things, including moderation. Essentials to good health are good sleep, good food, good community, and enough movement to keep your mind and body refreshed.
