Why did you become an acupuncturist?
I was part of a lineage of martial artists that practiced Chinese medicine. A life spent helping others is a valued way to spend one’s life energy.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
Having spent many years in the educational field of TCM, I have maintained the highest standards of practice, evolved my own learning and experience, and maintain the ability to clearly communicate with my patients about their conditions.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
There is no greater reward than seeing the results of good medicine.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
Most people are not aware that TCM involves many modalities beyond just acupuncture, including massage, diet recommendations, lifestyle changes, qigong exercises, herbal medicine, cupping, guasha (scrapping), banfa (joint manipulations), moxibustion, and any number of other modalities.

The second important misconception is that people don’t always realize that this is a complete medicine that can address any large number of illnesses—and there is evidence to back it up. Anything from pain, colds and flus, gynecological disorders, digestive disorders, psychological disorders, etc. Literally any illness has a history of being diagnosed and treated by Traditional Chinese Medicine.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
Master Pang’s disciple asked: “How does one live in accordance with the Tao?”

“By observing nature and cooperating with it, making common cause with the process of existence, by living for itself, deriving pleasure from the gift of pure being.

“To know that life is its own answer, accept it and enjoy it. Live as well as possible, expect no more.

“Destroy nothing, look for fault in nothing. Leave unsullied and untouched all that is beautiful. Hold that which lives in all reverence.

“For all life is given by the sovereign of our universe, given to be savoured, to be exalted and to be respected.”
