Why did you become an acupuncturist?
My lifelong interest in alternative and natural medicines led me to stumble upon acupuncture after struggling for years with anxiety issues. After I started using acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, my anxiety was under control, my wellbeing improved, as did my general health and happiness, and I became motivated to help other people find this powerful, natural medicine. Many people are skeptical of Chinese medicine and hesitant to try it because they know little about it. My goal as an acupuncturist is to help my patients on their path to healing by demystifying this medicine.
What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
I always personalize each and every treatment, and I work hard to adjust to any individual’s needs. What works for one person may not work for another. My goal is to make your acupuncture treatment as comfortable as possible. I always honor the body and try to listen to what it’s telling me. Life can be a little crazy sometimes. Acupuncture can be that extra edge to help heal and cope with whatever life throws at you.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love being able to help people overcome their ailments before they turn to more drastic options. I can’t help but smile when a patient tells me after a session that they feel relaxed and calm or that their pain is gone. More and more, people are becoming aware of acupuncture and other holistic therapies and making them a part of their everyday healthcare. I am proud to be a part of that movement.
What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
That it hurts! Also that it is not scientific, doesn’t work, or is dangerous. In my experience, people generally love the relaxing effect of treatment and greatly appreciate being more in tune with their bodies.
How do you stay healthy in your own life?
I live my medicine. I take Chinese herbs when I get sick, I use acupuncture to manage my health. I use pediatric acupuncture and herbs with my children. For me, this medicine is the first and usually the only medicine I use. I eat well, exercise, sleep well, and take care of my mental wellbeing.
