Why did you become an acupuncturist?
My first acupuncture treatment happened in my early twenties. I had strained my back while doing massage. The healing response from acupuncture was incredible. I knew at that moment that I wanted to study acupuncture. I continued to practice massage and further my studies in bodywork. At around that time, I started to work in the same office as an acupuncturist. I began to feel limited by the level of help I could offer my clients through massage alone. I decided to go to acupuncture school. I was excited to expand my knowledge in a different field and to increase my ability to help people.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
My sensitivity and capacity to be present with my clients. My goal is to create an environment where the person feels a real level of safety and trust. This allows the person to reach their full potential for healing on every level.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love seeing the changes that take place. A decrease in pain or tension, a deep sense of relaxation, a calm mind that can think clearly and handle stress better, improved sleep and digestion, more regular menstrual cycles—the list goes on. Improving someone’s quality of life!

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
That it is a magic bullet. That it is only used for pain. That you must be Asian to practice it.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
I am a moderate person and strive for balance. I like to eat mostly healthy. I like to move my body through walking outside, swimming, some yoga, and dancing. I like spending time with my family and friends, seeing great films and plays, and listening to music. I love to have a great laugh!
