Why did you become an acupuncturist?
I became interested in practicing Chinese medicine because of my own personal healing journey. In my mid twenties, I was suffering from anxiety, back pain, and chemical sensitivity. Acupuncture and herbal medicine helped me find balance, relief, focus, and calm. While laying on the table with needles in, I decided to study acupuncture myself.
What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
I am interested in bringing my innate skills and “healership” to my clients in the most beneficial way possible. I combine my experience and knowledge of energy work, personal transformation, and ancient Chinese medicine to create a space in which people can come to relax, heal, and transform their own lives.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy being of service to my fellow humans. I love it when clients comes in and tell me they are feeling relief, or feeling less stress in their lives. I am also happy to be in a profession that is health-giving and that can provide a decent living for myself and my family.
What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
The biggest misconception I hear is actually two fold. The first part is, “Acupuncture will heal me almost immediately.” The second part is, “If I don’t feel better after one treatment, then acupuncture must not work for me.”
How do you stay healthy in your own life?
My family and I eat an almost exclusively organic diet. We strive to buy products from local farmers and artisans so that our food is breathing the same air as we are. There is something to be said for our food sources depending primarily on what our ancestors had—our own ecosystem. I use herbal medicine as a preventive method of healing as well, and try to exercise and stretch when I get the chance. More than any of these though, I make space for spirit and compassion in my life.
