Why did you become an acupuncturist?
I have always had a deep interest in acupuncture, a medicine that has been around for thousands of years. In graduate school, I started reading about acupuncture research, and found myself even more interested. Later I experienced nerve damage, and acupuncture made a huge improvement for me. I absolutely loved the traditional paradigm in Chinese history that they only paid the doctor when they stayed healthy. I continued my treatments about once a month thereafter, and my allergies, susceptibility to infections, and other problems went away.
What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
With my background in neurophysiology, and a voracious appetite for acupuncture continuing education, I feel I have a good grounding in both the eastern and western thought processes. This can help me utilize the best of both worlds.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love helping people and seeing the impact of their results on their lives. I have never gotten tired of seeing the surprise and relief in my clients.
What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
The biggest misconceptions about acupuncture are that it hurts (not if we are doing it correctly), and that it is only used for pain. Acupuncture can be so very helpful in stress, fertility, digestion, fibromyalgia, anxiety, cardiovascular, and so many more internal disorders.
How do you stay healthy in your own life?
Yoga, meditation, prayer, and walking my greyhounds.
