Why did you become an acupuncturist?
I received my masters in pharmaceutical science in 1994. One of my goals back then—and still today—is to improve the health of patients by choosing the best medicines while avoiding side effects. I learned to compound natural herbal formulas and synthetic drugs, along with a traditional medical approach for treatment. As the years passed by, I gradually lost interest in my profession, so I started taking classes to study naturopathic medicine. I wanted to learn more about Traditional Chinese Medicine, so I went to Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and then switched to Midwest College of Oriental Medicine.
What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
I have 12 years of education in the medical field, both Western and Oriental medicine. Many acupuncturists are limited in using certain TCM techniques—for example, moxibustion—because of real estate policies that forbid the burning of herbs. It was very important for me to be able to practice according to my knowledge and experience. I use the best needles available. The most important thing for me is to be able to help my patients.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Finding a better solution to a particular patient’s problem and seeing that patient improve his or her health.
