Why did you become an acupuncturist?
At a young age I was interested in medicine as I spent much of my childhood around a hospital setting. Somewhere during middle school and college, my interest in the Western medical world waned, discontented with the outcomes and treatments I witnessed. Almost 10 years later, in 2001, I began my holistic healthcare journey, becoming a licensed massage therapist in Los Angeles. At the same time, after suffering from allergies for more than 10 years, I turned to acupuncture and found relief—no more medication, no more itchy eyes. I reawakened my natural-born interest in medicine, and knew this path into integrative medicine was my life’s purpose.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
My passion is to treat the whole person—body, mind and spirit. I like to combine my education in Chinese medicine with my massage skills, experience as a birth doula, whole-food based living, and nutritional and supplemental knowledge, to make a well-rounded treatment plan for my patients. I treat each patient on a individual basis with respect, compassion and knowledge.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
A positive pregnancy test, a day without a migraine or anxiety attack, the relief of pain residing for years—this is why I love Chinese medicine. For a lot of patients, TCM helps with what I call “flipping the switch,” getting them out of a rut so that they can move on with their lives and live to their fullest, healthiest potential.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
No, the needles do not hurt. They are as thin as one strand of hair. We do many other things on a regular basis that are far more painful. Yes, acupuncture works, but you need to follow the advice of your highly trained practitioner who has the knowledge of this 2,500 year old medicine.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
Balancing work and life events is tough. But I try to carve out time to eat healthy and exercise on a daily basis. For me, I’ve found that a diet full of fruits and vegetables, protein and little-to-no gluten works best—also known as the Paleo diet. I am an avid walker, runner and enjoy training for half marathons. In the winter time, you will find me taking a Zumba or yoga class.
