Why did you become an acupuncturist?
I became an acupuncturist after my own personal experience with using acupuncture and Chinese medicine for health concerns. I stumbled upon acupuncture after struggling for years with respiratory health issues. After I started using acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, my respiratory health improved, as did my general health and happiness, and I became motivated to help other people find this powerful, natural medicine. Many people are skeptical of Chinese medicine and hesitant to try it because they know little about it. My goal as an acupuncturist is to help my patients on their path to healing by demystifying this medicine, and also to provide resources and information so they can take charge of their health.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
As a practitioner, I am dedicated to my patients. I offer private treatments so that patients can feel comfortable to say whatever they need to say, or experience, without worry of being overheard. They have my full attention. There are many fantastic practitioners out there and everyone has a different style. I focus on you, what your body needs that day, and how I can best help you. I want my patients to get better so they only need preventive care. I do my best to help you heal as fast as possible.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love spending time with people and working through the puzzle of their health. The body is amazing and has an incredible capacity to heal. I love watching people get better without using surgery or pharmaceuticals. I also really enjoy educating people on their health choices and empowering them to keep seeking.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
That it hurts! Also that it is not scientific, doesn’t work, or is dangerous. In my experience, people generally love the relaxing effect of treatment and greatly appreciate being more in tune with their bodies.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
I get regular acupuncture treatment. I see a chiropractor weekly, use nutritional supplements, vitamins, and Chinese herbs. I exercise (cycle to work most days, run, walk and some yoga, cross-country ski in the winter, and hike whenever I can), have an active spiritual practice and also take time off to get outdoors! I love to eat and do my best to eat whole foods, organic, local and humanely treated, and have a plot in a local community garden.
