Fast facts
Practice type: Private
Specialties: Back pain, headaches / migraines, musculoskeletal pain, sports injuries, men’s health
Styles: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), trigger point acupuncture, cupping

Why did you become an acupuncturist?
I embarked on my journey to practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2009. The holistic approach of TCM provides me with the opportunity to treat the entire patient—mind, body and spirit.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
With dual Bachelor of Science degrees in sports medicine and nutrition from Colorado State University, I am able to incorporate my knowledge of Western medicine into my practice. This provides me with a greater understanding of the patient and the ability to treat from a dual perspective. With four years of outpatient rehabilitation experience, I am passionate about getting my patients out of pain and back to their optimal health.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love that I have found a career that allows me to help people in every aspect of their life. Chinese medicine is often a last resort for many people and it is amazing to give them the results they are hoping for.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
The largest misconception about acupuncture is that it is still experimental. There are numerous studies behind acupuncture points and the effects of acupuncture. It is a proven medicine.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
I like to stay healthy by following the seasonal diet, getting regular exercise, and of course using Chinese herbs and acupuncture on a regular basis.

Fast facts
Practice type: Hybrid
Specialties: Anxiety, depression, general wellness, stress, men’s health
Styles: Community acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), facial rejuvenation acupuncture

Why did you become an acupuncturist?
My interest in Asian culture goes back to my undergraduate days, when I studied Asian theatre and dance. After moving to the Bay Area, this evolved into an interest in Asian bodywork styles like Shiatsu and Thai. It wasn’t until I started volunteering for Misha Cohen, OMD, LAc, in San Francisco that I was inspired to become an acupuncturist.

What distinguishes you from other acupuncturists?
My approach to this medicine is very practical, offering patients simple and realistic ways to incorporate health into their lives. I take the time to educate patients about Chinese medicine without getting too caught up in the jargon.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
Introducing people to this medicine and hearing how they’ve been able to incorporate it into their daily lives. So much of my work is about helping people connect the dots, giving them the opportunity for self-awareness and offering them the tools to create some simple, yet lasting changes in their lives.

What is the biggest misconception you hear about acupuncture?
That it’s a one-time thing. Like everything in life, acupuncture is a process. It’s amazing when someone has a dramatic change in their condition after one treatment, but acupuncture is a cumulative experience that becomes more profound over time. After all, when we are trying to build muscle, we go to the gym on a regular basis for weeks before we start seeing results. Acupuncture is very similar.

How do you stay healthy in your own life?
My 5 year old Boxer keeps me pretty active and I am lucky to live in a city that makes it very easy to enjoy nature, good food, and a healthy amount of social activities.
